Garage interior lights recommendations please

Currently the double garage has two lights as shown

I'm planning to use one half for car parking and detailing in evenings (when kids asleep)

Other half as storage, possible gym equipment (when I get round to it)

Would it be worth getting fluorescent batterns instead, or any other thoughts to light and ceiling part?

Plan to paint walls white and in time rubber roll out flooring

Fluorescent lights would work well in a garage space and they'd attach easily to the wooden beams that you have.

Two should be enough to cover that space.

Your current lights are not really suitable for a garage.

Long fluorescent strip lights would be ideal. Depending on the size of the garage you could divide the ceiling into two halves or four sections and put a double-strip light in each section.

I'll have a look at options

The garage is about 17ft deep and 19ft wide
The middle bit has some boards up for storage, but looking at the pic myself, would I be better off to have the middle bit opening as at the top it has a fluorescent light already and board up the left and right side if I can for storage?

Any recommendations for screwfix, bnq, homebase ?

Also are the beams in garages strong enough to walk on

I've put things like old kitchen cabinets and wardrobes up in the rafters of my garage 'cos i thought if i do have to try and walk around at least walking on the boards spreads my weight. What's the size of the trusses about 4x2, not that strong is it. But then if i'm after anything i try and climb up near to where it is.

I've got a couple of spotlights similar to these mounted on a board

It's fitted with an extension lead. I clamp it to the roofbeams when I need a bit of extra light to work on something

Something like this from Screwfix should provide adequate lighting in your garage:

I couldn't say about the beams.
