Natwest and their security :p

Hi,
This is actually a rather serious issue...
I arrived home this morning from my week long holiday, to be greeted with 2 envelopes from Natwest.
I had applied for a Step account with them, and sent off all relevant documents etc that they require.
On opening my envelopes today I was greeted with my returned documents and in other envelope somebody else's Barclays Bank statement and pay slips that they must have sent to Natwest.
I am unsure whether to try and contact the guy directly to whom these belong to, or ring the bank.
It's clouded my judgement of Natwest now, if they can do this before my account is even open.
What do you all think? thanks for your time
David

Same story, different day, different bank.
Every bank manages to do this at some stage, and we hear about it all the time. Personally, I'd inform the bank and send them back.
I'd also let the person know (since if it was me, I'd want to be informed), but that is up to you to do. I'm quite sure the bank wouldn't bother.0 -
Luckily I didn't have to confirm my ID in any way, shape or form to NatWest
I would either hand them in at the nearest NatWest branch and inform them how they were sent to you in error OR return to sender and let them resend them back out to the correct person.
As the information is confidential information: I wouldn't bother informing the person who they belonged too but, you may think differentlyProudly Banking & Saving With:

Hi guys,
I'm going to take it to my nearest branch tomorrow. However, I'm not going to inform the guy of this, as should anything happen to his account in the future he may point the finger at me...
Of course I wouldn't do anything like that, but you can never be too careful these days.
I will request some form of receipt from Natwest to say I've handed them back.
THanks guys

I'd be interested to know what sort of receipt they might agree to give you.0

I had this happen a couple of times with an account I used to have with More Than - some bloke had a statement of his sent to me and I told More Than about it and they sent me £20 as an apology, but then a few months later they sent the same bloke's cheque book to me! Again I contacted them saying if I was less honest I could have caused havoc for that man having his name, address, bank details and now his cheque book. They just gave me another £20 and apologised. I doubt this man even knew about his account being passed onto me!0

Yet another example of poor safeguarding of personal data and a clear violation of the Data Protection Act.
If you wanted to make an example out of NatWest - send the evidence to the Information Commissioner's Office by registered letter, with a copy to the affected party and NatWest."Money is truthful. If a person speaks of their honour, make sure they pay in cash."0
