Wickes Next Day Delivery

Options
At the moment I'm gutting my 15 year old kitchen and replacing all the cabinets. I ordered all the kitchen cabinets I required from Wickes earlier today. Ordered before 6pm for next day delivery, all items in stock, etc.

Half six they leave a message on the house phone as they don't have some of the items in stock.
Called them, all the delivery slots are filled for tomorrow as well as three items being out of stock (that's five cabinets, over half of them!). They've offered delivery for next week but as I'm back to work next week and won't be able to take delivery I told them this is not suitable. Now they're going to try and source them from a different branch tomorrow and contact me.

The thing is I'm really unhappy about this. Everything was in stock online and it was ordered before 6pm, as their website states. If they can source the parts from another store the latest I can take delivery without taking time off work is this Saturday.

If they can source the parts, can I demand a delivery this Saturday to make up the inconvenience when the parts arrived on Friday?

And if they can't source the parts before next week, I'll be kitchen-less until they can deliver the parts, possibly next Saturday they said. What's my grounds for recompense due to them not fulfilling what their website states (next day delivery if ordered before 6pm)?

GRRR!

You need to read the small print on their web site. I think they charge more for Saturday delivery but if you whine, they might do the standard charge.

My recent experience with Wickes delivery is not good. I ordered 4 bulk bags of sand for Saturday. Come Saturday afternoon and I get a phone call saying they have none in stock. I'd stayed in all day for it. So I try and fail to find another supplier (B&Q had already stuffed up the order, so they were off the list). I rearranged for Saturday 2 weeks hence. On the first Friday I get a phone call saying it would be delivered the next day, when I would not be in. I moaned to my neighbour who kindly offered to meet the lorry. GRRR!

And as said, B&Q screwed the delivery.

Oh, and I got a £20 discount off the next purchase from that Wickes store. Not much compensation. I used it on the next 4 bag order.

I think this is not untypical for wickes, B&Q and homesbase. It stems that their systems are not real time and their stock records are incomplete. They sometimes cant locate stock in the warehouse especially when they are down to single numbers in stock.

My recent experience of wickes was mixed. I ordered a ton of tiles and a door. The tiles arrived next day, but the door didnt. I was told it would be sent separately. After 2 days I called and was told it should have been delivered.

I managed to sort it out on the phone and it was sent out the next day.

That given, they can all be frustrating.

    part of the problem is
    "pay penuts, get monkeys"

they are cheap becuase they screw thier overheads down to the min, these include logistics and stock control.

I think for the price, they do quite well.

if you NEED something and your plans depend on it, I would pay more and go with a more expensive builders merchant (Jewsons for example)
