    The problem is Nationwide will convert the USD straightaway at their rate on the day they receive your funds. They might have just quoted you an 'indicative rate'.

    If the funds were to arrive today, the rate should be at least 1.58.

    As long as there is no fee by intermediary banks. So thsi depends on the relationship between the US bank and HSBC.
