Bath aids

I`m having even more difficulty with getting in and out of the bath on my own. I need to be as independent as possible; until I have no choice.
I really could do with the type of stand up grab handle that fixes to the side of the bath. Not one that is just powder coated; they`re just useless with wet hands.
Anyone used these and could recommend one; I`d be gratefull.
Cheers, John

Ask your GP for a Occupational Therapy review...
they will come and access your needs, not just in the bathroom but also around the house -
Hand rails on the stairs, special handles for cutlery etc.

I was under the impression that funding for this from councils had now stopped. At least that is what I was told when I enquired about the possibility of getting grab rails installed in our house.Ask your GP for a Occupational Therapy review...

Not every council no. I recently needed my bath board replacing, not only did I get a no quibble replacement, they couldn't have been nicer and made sure I didn't need anything else and even offered me a new assessment (the bath board was 5 years old and I included a few lines about worsening health to demonstrate I still qualified).
If you've been told this by your council then I would complain to your MP that you've not been offered the help you need/ Council making wrong choices about what to fund.
One thing I do find useful when bathing is a bath mitt, basically a glove made of face cloth material, no need to maintain a grip while washing. Even though my left arm is the problem (I am right handed) it has proved surprisingly useful.0 -
In an ideal world you should try and see if the OT can recommend a walk in bath. If your council funds it on their recommendation all well and good, but you'll never know unless you try and ask.0

Most councils are now saying that there are alternatives to a walk in bath.
My wife has been given an electric bath seat that rises and falls so that she can sit on it and lower herself into the water. An absolute godsend. She has also been given a bed rail that fits under the mattress so she can get out of bed on her own (toilet in the night).
We were a bit disappointed with the perching stools, they are big (wide legs) and take up too much room, so that has now found it's way into the shower room for my use.
All came from Social Services via an OT assessment. The OT also told the DWP that my wife needs help day and night for her Attendance Allowance claim - don't know where she dreamt that up from? The aids supplied now reduce my wife's needs and I am able to leave her to sort herself out more often than not.0 -
Thanks for your replies, but they weren't what I was hoping for.
Does anyone have experience of, or purchased one of these.
