Accident when not in car
Hi all, My son's parked car was reversed into by another driver. The incident was witnessed and the driver has admitted liability.
My question is ... If the claim goes through the other persons insurance will my son lose some of his no claims bonus when he renews his insurance next year ... & also does anyone know if there is any advantage / disadvantage to using Auto Assist ? ( he was given a leaflet by a local garage when he went to to get an estimate for the required work , thinking that maybe the other driver may want to settle without going through insurance )
The incident was reported to the police who have visited the other driver.
Any advice welcome ..thanks

Your son wont lose any NCD or excess if claiming from a third-party. Personally I'd try and claim directly from the 3rd party insurer if you can, although I've also used Auto Assist in the past without any problems.0

Had similar last year.
Claimed via my own insurer [only the slightest of damage caused to my car..the other was a reet mess]....just in case damage had occurred that I myself could not detect.
No reason not to be picky, as I knew the other party had to accept 100% liability...regardless of how much they might bleat. [not a clip, but a real good rear-end ramming].
I was offered a hire car [by my insurer, via a contractor] within 2 hours of the collision..and on a Sunday too..]..which I declined at the time, as my car was outwardly unhurt.
Within a few days, received a letter from the legal dept of my own insurer, informing me of no impact on my NCD [unprotected anyway]...or premium...and if I wanted to, I could change my mind over the hire car.
As it turned out, they decided to Cat C my car [age, probably] and I received an offer I thought would be trite to refuse.
Which is why I've ended up with a Ford.
{strangely, I get repeated calls from accident lawyers to this day, demanding I claim for injuries sustained in the collision. They all seem to fail to grasp the fact that, the car was parked, no-one was in it, or near it.....although I witnessed the entire event from my front door step.
Maybe I should claim for psychological impact? After all, gotta get something back for all those years of not making any sort of claim whatsoever?}No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
He will have to declare that he has made a claim though, which can push the base price of his policy up at renewal.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

NCB will not be lost or reduced, but expect an increase in premiums for the next 5 years. How much this increase will be, I do not know, because it's really hard to find out.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

The fact that it would be a 'no-fault' claim should not affect the normal level of premium.[it didn't with mine]...No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -

It's not that difficult to find out.
Just use some dummy data (for example: using an identical car's registration number off autotrader) to get quotes with and without mentioning the accident.
People have quoted success in recovering the extra premium from the at fault third party's insurer, but it's unusual to try it, and I'd expect a fight. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
