Visa Chargeback on debit card, anyone used it

Hi

I have a dispute with a supplier who sold me an item which I have since found out to have been misrepresented under the sale of Goods Act

I bought the item using using the HSBC Visa debit card, I have read they are signed up to the Debit CardChargeback scheme where they will allegedly withdraw the payment from the supplier until the dispute is settled.

Has anyone been successful with the scheme and do Visa assist with the dispute process, thanks

Have you tired to settle the case with the supplier?
Do you have documents e.g. letters or emails?

If so just fill out the form from HSBC and they'll do the rest.
They will have expected you to try with the supplier first and you'll need to be within a time limit, but otherwise it's simply a case of opening a claim.

    What's your question?

Yes been in touch with the supplier, both in writing and at a meeting, also sent letter before claim and letter before action intending to go to civil court, supplier blames the condition of the goods on the previous supplier and states they were unaware of the problem, I shall try HSBC but otherwise if the Chargeback scheme was a toothless wonder, I will just go straight to civil action, so asking if anyone has personal knowledge of and used the Visa chargeback scheme

HSBC may be acting effectively as an escrow at present.

If you have a dispute with the supplier, you need to resolve it with that supplier. If you are unable to, you will have to take the matter to court to prove your claim. The supplier agreeing to your claim, or a court judgement in your favour should allow HSBC to return the funds to your account :)

HSBC will not act as judge and jury (although you won't need a jury) in your claim.

It is now going to court and the Hsbc chargeback scheme only applies for 120 days, so off to court. I tried settling with the supplier, but unfortunately dealing with garages is akin to dealing with ....... Anyway, thanks

You misunderstand what a Visa dispute is.

There are various reasons that allows (HSBC in this case) to try and reclaim money back on your behalf.
It cannot be used to withdraw money back while you resolve a issue with a retailer.

Visa chargebacks are over and above your legal rights.

You did not state what the issue was. So I could not say if you would have had any chargeback right anyway. :D
