Midland Credit card PPI

Options
Hi, Hoping someone can give me some advice

in 1994 I had a Midland credit card. I did not realise I had insurance to cover payments. Anyway I lost my job in 1994 and contacted them to try to sort out an arrangement. It took approx 6 months for this to happen. In that time the debt rose from £3970 to over £4600 because they kept charging me interest. What I have now realised is they had charged me PPI but never advised me that I had insurance to cover the payments. Instead I have been paying this debt ever since at £15 a month and they say I still owe £1755.

I have nearly all the statements since taking the card from them just not the first few. I paid approx £500 in PPI but I dont think just claiming this back is sufficient. If they had told me I had insurance then the card debt would have gone down for however long they paid and then I would have had a much lower debt.

Does anyone know how long they should have paid it and what percentage they would have covered.

Also has anyone been in this situation and what sort of letter did you write? I have been told to send SAR letter but then people say they have no details more than 6 years ago, so that we be a waste of £10.

I really hope that someone can help

Regards

Alan

If you're going to complain about PPI you are saying you didn't need or want it, so you can't then say if I'd known about it I would have used it.

Which one do you want to complain about?

  • Well I did not know I had it or I would of made use of it and let them pay my credit card for a while. So how do you think I should write the letter? In my opinion they should give me the money it would of covered but I dont want to write the letter wrong

Just put the claim in and let them know you have nearly all the statements, put what you state on here regarding had you known you had this you would have made a claim when you needed to and the debt may not have escalated, see what they come back with.
  • I have written a letter saying I never knew I had this insurance. But surely when I wrote and told them I had been made unemployed they should have told me its OK you have insurance. I have a letter from them saying that they will carry on adding card protection even though I cant pay the minimum. I think at the time I thought the protection was in case I lost my card and someone used it.
