I have just managed to get my SSD working on my PC - By building Windows 7 64 bit straight on to the SSD - After Acronis repeatedly failed to clone my old HDD
I am now having severe problems UPDATING my Windows - getting an error message "Windows update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running, you may need to restart your computer"
I have tried restarting - but no change
Any suggestions ?

Also, you cannot clone a hard disk to an SSD.
Windows will move things around if it's an SSD to make it more efficient.
Starting off with a blank canvas is always the way forward.
If you did do any sort of cloning, might be worth starting again from the very beginning and re-installing Windows.0 -
To check it's not purely a windows problem, type "troubleshoot" on the start screen and select the troubleshooters from the settings results. There's a Windows update troubleshooter that should sort most thingsSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -

Why not ?
That is what the Acronis cloning software that was included with my SSD is supposed to achieve .........
I did end up building it from scratch - but this doesn't help me with my update problem....0 -

Sorry - no effect at all !!
It seems that MS may have stopped pre SP1 Win 7 from accessing Windows Update - slightly prematurely I feel ?0 -
Why didn't you use SP1 media??0

Because my Win 7 DVD is not SP1 - I know that I can download an image file but hadn't realised that this would be a problem before I started the job !!0 -
