been looking at the atkins and dukan diet, perhaps buying the book to use a guide as i dont really want to follow a diet. just want to know how much of what i can eat and start to shift the weight.

My OH followed the Atkins diet years ago, and her cholesterol went through the roof.
She found that she could eat normal foods (concentrating on all kinds of fish, chicken and occasional red meat) and still lose weight. She did cut down on carbs though (none after breakfast), as she was not doing any real exercise.

in June I did the 'whole 30' challenge. For 30 days ate only meat veg, fruit (not too much) eggs, nuts & oils.
No sugar, dairy or grains. No alcohol!
At the end of 30 days I added in some of the things I had cut out, like potatoes sometimes. If it's a special occasion I will have pudding. I also now have some dairy.
On the whole though I still avoid grains. No pasta, bread, pastry etc.

In all I've lost 7 kg. I have lost very slowly but I'm really pleased. Doing the 30 day challenge helped me to change the way I eat. Before I could easily cram sugary stuff in my mouth without too much thought.

I've recently started to exercise regularly and am thinking of adding rice back into my diet before working out.

Dukan is awful, I wouldnt go near it.

Ive lost 12kg since the end of May and I havent cut out carbs altogether. I eat a lot of veg. I eat wraps, I try and make them wholemeal, if I have pasta I'll make it wholemeal as well, I certainly do not go hungry.

I make soups as well, I also eat brown rice. Ive halved my portion sizes, Ive also cut down on alcohol, I swapped wine for spirits and Im now having more alcohol free days as well.

Fad diets dont work, in fact diets dont work full stop, thats why so many people get caught in a lose, gain, lose gain cycle

People need to find out why they are overeating. Ive never particularly thought of myself as a comfort eater but I had an awful 2012 and my healthy diet went totally to pot

I was also in some awful habits, eating junk late at night. Ive discovered that I actually dont need to buy crisps, not having them in the house doesnt bother me, similarly I dont need a habit of having a glass of wine every night.

And no one needs to reach for chocolate or crisps or any other junk food, of course treats have their place, but until you can do moderation, which I struggle with and always have, I cut them out.

Also exercise will help massively, I couldnt be without it.

You swap them for wholemeal carbs, white processed carbs really have very little nutrition.

Also, I think sometimes, theres nothing wrong with feeling a bit hungry, its rare that anyone will go through a day and feel full from beginning to end

I dont like porridge but you could have some of that, oatcakes, brown rice, wholemeal pasta, bread

A lot of veg, couple of pieces of fruit a day and get moving.
