You know it's time to diet when...!

Hi all,
I'm really sorry if this is the wrong place to post but I've not found any other.
I've recently moved and as part of unpacking I found some brand new trousers I'd bought ages ago in the sales and hadn't worn so I thought I'd wear them to work. To my horror they didn't fit so I tried another pair only to find that, while they did up I could hardly breathe in them - literally all the work trousers I have bar 1 pair were all too small!!
Having lived in skirts for the last couple of really hot months and then being on leave from work for a few weeks I hadn't noticed just how big I was getting but now I have I'm horrified!
I've decided that enough is enough and that I need to loose weight not only for my health but also for my bank balance - I've probably got around £500 worth of clothes that I can't wear because they're too small!! So that's why I'm posting, for some encouragement and to get diet ideas that are cheap and tasty to keep me going.
Also, because I've recently moved I cancelled my gym membership and am shopping around for another more reasonably priced way to keep fit. I have my dog which I take for a walk twice a day (around 1.5 miles) and I try to go for a walk during my lunchbreak but that's all I'm doing at the moment. So if people have ideas for cheap ways to exercise then I'd be really interested in hearing them.
Thanks

Bodyweight and free weight exercises - 30 Day Shred is good and I picked it up on amazon for a fiver
Lower your carb intake - I don't eat bread or pasta anymore and it's helped me.
Good Luck!

Thanks HBS. I've got a wii fit so I'm going to use that again - I stopped because it felt like I was going to thug my way through the floor in the last house so I'm hoping the new one will sound reassuringly sturdy as I'm running around! :rotfl:
I found some home exercises and diet advice on NHS choices and there's the change for life website too so I think I've got enough to get started at home again.
I defo think that you're right about cutting out bread; I just struggle for lunch ideas then. What do you tend to do for lunch?
Thanks

I am too trying to cut out bread, I tend to eat salads you could add some thing new and different to it every day to stop it getting boring, Some days I get my 5 a day just from lunch.

Salads, soups, pots of cottage cheese, cooked chunks of chicken, tuna, leftover chilli, hard boiled eggs

Also make a salad in a box for your lunch and take a couple of Ryvitas and a piece of fruit to have with it.
Lunches can be a pain at work, if you forget it you can end up eating shop bought pasties and sandwiches.
Make fresh curry's and chillis and dont eat a lot of rice and pasta. Also knock all fizzy drinks and crisps on the head.
Even diet fizzy drinks Im not convinced about as your body cant tell the difference(e.g it will still produce insulin when you have one) and that asparatime is really sweet and makes people crave sugar.
Dont bother with joing gyms etc, go for a walk of an hour or bike ride on an evening or a swim. Mix it up.
You could also go for a jog round the park with your dog, or kick a football about with it etc.0 -
A higher protein diet can be really helpful. Not necessarily crazy high protein and I'm not saying cut out carbs but just making a point of getting a good amount of protein at every meal. It stabilises your blood sugar so you don't get hungry as fast and you don't get the same sugar cravings etc. Works for me anyway.
Exercise is great and is very helpful for keeping you in the right mindset but there's no question that losing weight is 80% about your diet.0 -
If you are doing cardio exercise you will burn the carbs as long as they're not excessive. Watch the protein though unless you are doing strength training. They're more helpful for building muscle I believe. Carbs maintain your metabolism, so it's not a good idea to try to cut them out.0

Good luck!!
Drinking more water is always a good start carrying around a 2l bottle, having a healthy snack stashed in your handback/ at work so when you have a 'moment' there is something to nibble on without heading for the newsagent!
Whole grains to keep you fuller, look for bootcamps/ dance class offers on groupon there's usually something most weeks![STRIKE]7lbs to lose [/STRIKE]
2lbs to lose! :j
