I will agree with everything said so far, especially about seeing what you have bin the cupboards and freezer before you buy anything else, work out meals that you can make from them, there are a few sites that you input your ingredients and they come up with ideas such as
http://www.cookbookinteractive.co.uk/search.php
and supercook.com there are more but I can't remember them I am sure that others will come on with the information.

You say that you have a balcony and grow herbs on there, have you tried growing some veggies in hanging baskets and pots as well? Lots of info here

The debt-free diaries are a sub-board. This and the old-style board both "safe" boards, where everyone wants to help rather than shoot people down in flames.
Thanks for this . . . :-)0 -
Thanks Tryingagainandagain, I've popped over to the DFD board and started a diary so I'll keep that updated with my progress, and sit down and do a proper SOA at some point this weekend.
Haven't done a proper cupboard audit yet but does anyone know how long after their best befores it's safe to eat dried pulses? I've got loads from a health kick I never got round to starting 3 or 4 years ago. I think they have a best before of 2011:eek: I'd really rather not throw them out though if I can eat them, probably enough to do me 2 months in there!0 -

If I told you that they have managed to germinate and grow plants from beans found in pyramids you will get and idea for how long dried pulses can be stored for........................ a LONG time.
So cook -and eat away ............. as long as the pulses are dry and not mouldy in any way of course.
