"Smooth Over" bathroom tiles...?

I'm in the middle of a total nightmare in my kitchen - i'm updating it as its stuck in a bit of a time warp and the previous owners tiled from floor to ceiling so i've taken them all off and now on the massive job of getting all the tile adhesive off which is a pain but fine...
however, my next job is the bathroom, and again it is in a time warp and tiled floor to ceiling. I only want to part tile both rooms so in the bathroom would it be possible to tile over the ones already there and then use that "smooth over" stuff so that I can paint the rest...?
or any other ideas on what to do to save me from having to rip all the tiles off without retiling the whole room?
many thanks in advance

You can tile over tile, but I have only heard bad things about smooth over.0

Smooth over is just smooth artex and is a bit of a nightmare. You may be looking at replastering or tiling to the ceiling over the original tiles. Personally I would bite the bullet and remove the tiles, make good the walls then tile ... I know, a lot of work, but worth it."I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. i would always remove the old tiles.
bastad job i know, but break the job into say 4 days and it aint too bad.
may need a bit of plaster to repair the walls, but usually only minor problem and plaster is dirt cheap.
any other method is a lash up at best.Get some gorm.0 -
Plasterboard the walls, either spot and dab or use panel adhesive with screws and plugs.0
