You don't get sympathy here, you get information. Being pregnant has never been covered by PPI. Reading the exlcusions on the paperwork given to you would have shown that.

  • well surely if it was just a case of reading the exclusions and the terms properly, there wouldn't be 1000s of people reclaiming ppi and if it clearly stated that on my contract or in the info given to me, then HSBC would NOT have accepted liability for the error and pay out £500, not as goodwill but as stated on the letter a refund, which worked out to £200 more than what i had paid initially. They wouldn't have ACCEPTED liability if they thought i was in the wrong.
  • you don't get information from these sites you get opinions, there's a difference

So what is it that you're actually after? You're basically saying, no matter what anyone states here, that they're wrong and you're right etc.

Also, what exactly are you wanting as an outcome for your complaint to the lender?
  • all that anyone seems to be stating is that the ppi wasn't in fact mis sold, when i keep saying that HSBC have accepted liability for the mis selling of this product under the maternity exclusion. This was there conclusion not mine, so i don't understand why im arguing about this. They had the facts and investigated it. So to be fair the people that are saying its not been mis sold are wrong.

to be honest what i would like is the ppi on my credit card as i was awarded it back for my loan and they were taken out at the same time. Maybe a stop to some charges, that are taken out of my benefits and a reimbursement (possibly) of some charges incurred from my loan at a time when i should have been able to claim on the insurance, that was once again mis sold

Have they actually written that in the uphold letter? That it was due to maternity? Or have they upheld your complaint and not told you why?

OK so we've established that you feel the PPI was mis-sold, and that HSBC have agreed with you.

Earlier you mentioned you felt the loan itself was 'mis-sold' - my point was, if you are going to complain about that, what outcome do you want from that side of things?
  • sam1craven, you have been given some excellent advice on this thread - all which is factually correct, not opinion.

To reiterate, you would have been covered if you were dismissed due to your pregnancy. That was very unlikely to happen, you would have had grounds to take your employer to tribunal if they had done that, but not unheard of. However that does not apply in your situation because you chose to resign from your employment. PPI does not cover people when they voluntarily resign from work.

I expect HSBC made an auto payment to you. Some banks do this as it can be cheaper than defending a claim.
  • i wrote pretty much everything that i stated in my initial comment on this thread about maternity. They sent me a questionnaire regarding my complaint which asked why i thought i had been mis sold it and i had put due to the maternity exclusion, which i was told by the bank was the reason i couldn't claim on it, not relationship breakdown. I then phoned them a couple of weeks later and they said my complaint had been upheld and sent for redress. i then got a refund and a letter apologising and accepting liabilty
  • i don't know what i would want from the loan side of things because like people have said i got the loan and spent the money so i cant really expect anything from that.
