eon confusion
Options
Hey all,
My eon DD has been £175 p/m since as long as I can remember mostly to clear a large debit. Last June my annual statement said that we were £265, much less than previously, in debit therefore they would increase my DD to £185 p/m
I checked using my online account and they have a 'direct debit manager' which shows you what you are paying each month and allows you to change it. What I found really odd is that it said £185 would be the right amount to be paying over 10 months. I know for a fact they are taking it over 12 and always have.
Here's were it gets weirder though, I made a one off payment of £88 bringing the debit down to £180 or so, I then submitted my latest meter readings for the last 2 months and requested a new bill. Now in debit £36
So I reduced the debit manually, my 2 month consumption appears to be low (back of cig packet calc come in at around £110-115 p/m though I appreciate that is summer months), yet the Direct Debit manager now advises I pay £175 over 9 months. I have found nothing to suggest eon actually have months in the year in which you do not pay. That is certainly not my experience
Eon let me change the amount up to a point but not the amount of months I pay it over. Worse, they keep changing it! I'm going to end up with it recommending I pay £1500 over 1 month at this rate
I just want to get the monthly amount down. If paying off the debit and using less can't do that, what on earth can?
Does anyone have any ideas what's going on?

They may be calculating the new rate for your balance to be zero at the end of March.
If you want to reduce your monthly debit then you'll have to pay a large one-off credit to your account.0 -
Nada66, You're absolutely right, I realised just after posting. The monthly amount is dropping as I get closer to year end! It was coincidence that I checked on the 13/14th days which must the be the crossover point for the month doh!
Effectively my debit reduction of £230 has entitled me to £90 off my DD payments. We have been putting a lot of effort into reducing usage so hopefully their annualised figure will be way off (they forecast 2k)0 -
Hi afly
Hope you're ok with our online Direct Debit Manager.
Just thought I'd confirm, we aim for accounts to have as near as possible to a zero balance by the time of the annual review.
Any debit balance at the time of the review is included in the monthly payments and spread over the number of months up to the review.
As Nada666 says, one way of reducing the monthly payments is by paying part or all of any debit balance. The Direct Debit can then be re-calculated based on the new balance.
Also, you can use the Direct Debit Manager as many times as you like. Consequently, if your usage goes down, you can use the tool to change the monthly payments to reflect the changed circumstances before the annual review.
Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.
