Hi guys...
I am curious to what is the right way around to open the Nationwide Flexi account, just before my court date, or just after?
I have an account that I am considering keeping open, but am I right in thinking that there is no guarentee that if this account is not drawn that they may close it anyway???
Help appreciated.

Thanks
A friend who had gone BR sometime last year had opened her co-op account before going BR?? Is this odd?
The current account I have at the moment then I am assuming I should just leave it as it is, if it's drawn it will be written off as part of the total debt.

Sorry about that. Was on the way to get a beer.;)
The basic Co-op, Nationwide, and Barclay's accounts will often be left open by the OR and bank after BR, since these are accounts that you can apply for and get post BR.
Many people take the chance on one of these before BR so they can have a continuity for payments such as wages, DD's etc.
While it is likely these accounts will be left open, it is not guaranteed.
If you are prepared to take the chance, and have a backup plan then it is worth a go.
The current account you have at the moment will form part of your BR debt if OD on BR day. Even if not OD, it may be closed, or have things like debit card, cheque book etc withdrawn anyway.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

 lol
Great - so it wouldn't be the best of idea's to get mother dear to pay off my od on the day of BR as there could be a possibility that it may be closed anyway?! That at the OR might think i've taken a liberty!
Re: opening the co-op or flexi account, I am in no real hurry, yet will have wages that need to go somewhere at the end of the month, although my employer would be ok paying into another named account just curious as to the majority on here open theirs 'post' BR where as my friend was pre... I think she had pay plan advising her mind you...dunno...!!
Maybe I should open it pre as I plan to go crt Monday week and pay day is week after... owwww decisions!! :eek:0 -
If you pay off your OD on the day of your BR, the OR might consider it as preferential treatment of one of your creditors and this is not allowed. Can you get this months salary paid into your mothers account until you have opened a new account post BR? The reason for this is some employers need more than a week to change bank details and at least you know you will be able to get at your salary. It took me 4 days to open my CoOp account post BR but it can take up to 21 days.
Good luck with your BR.Went BR 25th May 2007 at 12.33, OR Interview now done. BSC No 880 -
Agreed - I have decided to go for a new account post BR.
My employer sends my wages on sage via bacs sat next to me so pausing or changing details shouldnt be a big issue.
So co-op took 4 days??? I intend to go to a branch of the 3 listed immediatley after being in court. An hope for an new account then and there, is this realistic??0 -
Yes, as the Co-op need to do their fraud checks. It takes a good 2 weeks, often as much as 4, for the Cashminder account to be sorted out. If you need it sooner, you'll probably be better off opening a Flex Account with the Nationwide as they seem to get sorted out much quicker. So co-op too 4 days??? I went in to our local branch of Co Op day after I went BR and the girl there was no help at all, told me that they dont open cash minder accounts in branch anymore and gave me a number to ring. Rang them and they went mad when I told them what the person in branch said, so they arranged for me to meet the branch manager on the Friday, went in and he wasn't about and told no one about this appointment, informed staff that head office made the appointment and the assistant manager saw me instead. Did all the necessary for me in the branch looked at my ID (passport and childrens allowance letter) told me to ring on Monday for account number and sort code. Rang on the Monday got sort code and account number, received cash card yesterday, so it took 1 week from seeing someone to receiving cash card.Went BR 25th May 2007 at 12.33, OR Interview now done. BSC No 880

Blimey Co-Op sound like a nightmare... lol Dare I ask what branch that was!!!
Well at least you got ur sort and acc details within a week, so there is hope If I opt for Co-Op...0 -
You were lucky, Owetoomuch. Others on here have waited weeks, & I only got away with a two-week wait because I complained about the delay.
Having said that, I went BR at the end of March & they admitted that they had a backlog of applications to deal with. Maybe that's been sorted out now.
