I wonder how many of the people saying how good zero hours contracts are would change their tune if they were on one with rent and bills to pay.
I can see they would be OK for someone who wasn't relying on the money but if you are they must be a nightmare.
Clearly there is an issue where the overall income level is inadequate for peoples needs and there is a problem whether banks / BS will accept the income for mortgage purposes.
However that was no less true for temporary workers, for part time workers and people unemployed.
Strangely you haven't expressed equal concern for them; is that because it's less of a nightmare for them or because it's not the news of the day?0 -

The thread is about zero hours which seem to be growing especially in the none skilled sector. I think the number of part time jobs and zero hours contracts hide a lot as far as unemployment figure go.0 -

Yes indeed they do; but making 'bleeding heart' expressions of superiority of other posters without one practical suggestion is a little self indulgent.0 -

I'd be fine with it. If someone wants a job wiith fixed hours, then they can take one with fixed hours, it's their choice.
Unless they have done sweet f.a. to make themselves employable, in which case, they are learning a valuable life lesson.0 -

Why am I not surprised at this glib reply0 -

It probably only seems glib because you've not understood yet that people have to live with the choices that they made earlier in life, on the whole.
If a person finds that they can only get a job that they don't like then it's very likely down to decisions they made years before.
There are jobs available, today, here inn my office on fixed hours paying £500k p.a. The company struggles to fill them.0 -

I can assure you I am well aware of the fact that choices you makecan effect your life but I've also been around long enough to know thatthere are many things that can influence those choices.0
