Don't allow the Government to ignore yet another company making redundancies. Sign!

Please go to the Government e-petitions web site (type it into Google) and search for 'Railcare'. I can't post a link here for some silly reason.

Please sign this petition asking Business Secretary Vince Cable to help rail maintenance firm Railcare.
Despite promises to prevent redundancies, 118 employees have been made redundant at Wolverton works in Milton Keynes and 33 made redundant at Springburn works in Glasgow due to the collapse of a takeover deal.

Hundreds more are at risk of losing their jobs; my poor old Dad included! He has spent 43 YEARS working at the Wolverton works. There were lots of other loyal workers at the firm who had given many years of service to the company, yet the way in which they were let go was nothing short of an insult.

In addition to the hundreds of jobs at risk, the running of Britain's trains could be affected. The company has a full order book and is a viable business, yet when they approached Vince Cable for financial support, he allegedly gave a flat 'no'.

Staff still with the firm haven't been paid since June; this is UNACCEPTABLE. This Government claim that they want to kick start the economy, create jobs and keep people in work. They claim that they want to help businesses... and still they are allowing a company to collapse unnecessarily.

Stand up for British jobs! Give two minutes of your time - add your name to the list of people who are unwilling to let this Government turn a blind eye whilst hundreds of people lose their jobs.

Search for 'Railcare' on the Government e-petitions web site.

Hate to say this, but if the company was viable, they wouldn't be in administration. If they could keep the employees and pay them, they would. The fact is this is not possible, the business is not currently viable, and needs a new owner who can invest and improve things. The only way that can change is if a new buyer comes forward.

Can't think why you are annoyed with the government either - the only way a country can get out of recession is to see companies collapse. This frees up business for other successful companies to take up and grow. The government are looking at the bigger picture.

Good news at least for the retained workers as the company has been sold by the administrators to Knorr-Bremse Rail Systems (UK) who have said they will be paying the July salaries. Not quite so happy for those made redundant though.
