Anyone got any idea whether there are Green Savings accounts kicking around ...
What makes an Account Green?
Would you ever put money into it?
Is it just a scam to rip more money off the savers of the world?
Any thoughts ?:D

I didn't know saving accounts had colours?
I think the question is What does Green mean to you?
For me green would mean a bank that ran on solar power and didn't use any paper and the employees used bikes to ride to work would be green for me. I dont think it exists.
Maybe for you it might mean it gives a small percentage of the interest to green charities?
In my opinion they are a scam.0 -
http://www.smile.co.uk and, it's owner on the high st, The Cooperative Bank.
Have a look at their web sites as to their green policies.
Easy to operate accounts but, sadly, crap interest rates.0 -
...and the Ecology Building society: http://www.ecology.co.uk/God save the King!
I'll save Winston Churchill, Jane Austen, J. M. W. Turner and Alan Turing.0 -

As has been said, I think it all depends on what 'green' means to you?
Is it a bank which specifically invests only in 'green' type projects like Triodos or the Ecology Building society?
Or does something like Smile or the Cooperative Bank qualify - which promise to use your money 'ethically' (though this is different from 'green')?
Or could somewhere like HSBC qualify? They offer paper free statements, state that they are 'carbon neutral', funding environment research and announced last month they were donating a total of $100million to the Climate Group, Earthwatch Institute, Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) and the WWF to combat climate change.
Then they also give out energy saving light bulbs in some countries and are now building 'green branches' - as well as having websites like http://www.hsbccommittochange.com/
