My first digital camera was a samsung S1030. great camera that produced great pictures.it cost me around £120 back in 07 so not cheap but not expensive either. back in january the battery brackets went so it was either buy a new camera or struggle taping up the battery holder and making sure the camera didnt turn off mid shot
in the spare of the moment i bought the samsung wb150f. seeing as my previous samsung had produced great pictures i felt safe getting another samsung. big mistake. the picture quality is very poor and in a huge amount of pictures i get bluring down the left hand side of the picture.very noticable if theres buildings, trees in the background.it happens probably the last quarter of the pic while the right hand side and the centre of the pic are fine. ive tried changing settings etc but no real difference is shown. i did abit of googling and found that in high zoom cameras, this has a 18x optical that it can effect the picture quality unless i presume you buy a really expensive one. reading some online reviews i see this bluring or soft corners? mentioned but it happwns on the right hand side of the picture.the only good thing is its not really noticable when i view the pics on a smart phone or the t.v but on a comp its very obvious and when i printed a few pics out the other day and compaired it to prints from the s1030 the quality is pretty terrible.
so im thinking of maybe now buying another camera but im concerned about this issue happening again and until you get it home you wont know and if you buy it from currys based on previous experience they are terrible when it comes to exchanges. the closet samsung with specs to match the s1030 is possibly the st150f interms of zoom length. which seems to whats causing the issue on the wb150f.does anyone have the above camera or can you recommend one which has great pic quality but no more than £100 and has wifi.it amazes me that samsung put out such a poor camera. dont they check them after they are made

Are you sure that it's not a fault with camera. Problems caused by the lens would generally show themselves as a gradual softening(blurring) towards the corners.
Without seeing a picture it is difficult to tell what problem might be.0 -
It would be useful to see some of these poor shots from the Samsung because if it's only happening on one part of the picture it could be a fault. Shooting at long focal lengths on high zoom cameras can be an issue if it isn't particularly bright as you can end up either with blurring if the shutter speed is too low or grainy/soft pictures if the camera has increased the iso to try and boost the shutter speed.

thanks for your replies. im currently on my phone so unable to upload my own pics but in the review link above it shows some photos where they have the same issue.
Im not using the zoom when this issue occurs. tbh it probably takes a clearer pic when im using it. im off on hols in a couple of weeks so might take it back to where i bought it when i come back to at least see if its a fault or just a poor camera.this is only my second digital camera so im kinda unsure as to what some think is acceptable especially after being spoilt my previous camera and iam very picky!. but from reading reviews it seems maybe sumsung is lagging in the pic quality department as it concentrates on smart/wifi0 -
am i right in thinking the aperture is what can cause bluring if the light is to low.Shooting at long focal lengths on high zoom cameras can be an issue if it isn't particularly bright as you can end up either with blurring if the shutter speed is too low
i can manually change the aperture on the camera. on most pics when i check it gives an ISO value of around 80 which is the lowest one. i have the setting on auto so the camera pics the level itself. do you think changing the level manually to a higher one might help or should i leave it on auto as presumably you would expect the camera to pick the best level for the picture its taking. although all the pics im having issues with were taken in good overseas summer holiday sunshine! but some pictures are better than others which is confusing as you would expect them to be pretty much all the same0 -
I bought the Samsung WB150F too.. mainly for the wifi features.
It's an abomination of a camera. Far too slow and the picture quality was pretty average. I've decided that the wifi features are over-rated; and bought an adaptor so i could read SD cards on my phone (and thus, use the wifi features on that)
Avoid Wifi - go for the best 'camera' you can unless you want to be disappointed.
Personally, i popped the cash for a Panasonic LX7 (it was £269 when i bought it from a hong-kong website). It's an epic camera that never misses a moment, it's so fast.0 -
Thanks for that ringo. i do find it very slow when taking pictures aswell. i wS thinking of not bothering with the wifi and looking at cameras that used a microsd then i could put it straight into a phone/tablet and use an adaptor for a laptop etc. the oanasonic sounds abit out of my league price wise but ill take a look0

What phone do you have? I've got a Samsung Galaxy S3, and you can get a cheap connector that lets you put USB devices onto it (and therefore, an SD card reader). If you've got an iphone/ipad, then there are adaptors for about £7-10 to be had.
Think of it this way - would you rather pay for better 'camera' electronics (to make it faster/better) or 'wifi' electronics?
If you want a cheap camera, i'd look towards something like this - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nikon-COOLPIX-S3500-Compact-Digital/dp/B00BETYELC
Looking at the reviews, it's liked, the photos on flickr are ok.. at that budget it's quite nice0 -
Ive got a samsung galaxy (the first one) yeah i totally agree.seems to me samsung have slacked on the quality of the actual camera because of their obsession with making everything smart
just been into currys where i bought the camera and asked about having it checked under warranty. they said they send it to samsung but if samsung find no fault they might charge you. ie you wont get the camera back until you pay up. i laughed and said if they do that they can keep it!! seems ridiculous you cant check to see if the camera is actually faulty or not. how do you know one way or the other unless its checked. Although tbh i just think it is a crap camera!0 -
It's worth having a gamble on buying one of these;
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Micro-Cable-Galaxy-Toshiba-Archos/dp/B0064GZAIQ/
and one of these:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Integral-USB-Single-Slot-Reader/dp/B000VY80AM
To see if you can read from an SD card to your phone
Edit: You might need to follow this guide.. http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/enable-usb-host-function-on-samsung-galaxy-s-i9000-and-captivate/
I agree, i thought it was rubbish and felt like i'd just lobbed £150 down the drain. I've given it to my in-laws...0 -
Thanks. ive been looking at the canon ixus 230hs it seems to have alot of top notch reviews and i can use a micro memory card in an adapter that i can then put in my phone. only problem is there doesnt seem to be many people selling it! .in the mean time im just gonna go back to my old samsung s1030 as it still works aslong as i hold the battery flap closed and after compairing pics on my comp the quality is a thousand times better than the wb150f.its just aswell i took over a 1k pics on my previous holiday as out of that ive prob got 25% that are actually decent pics with no
distortion and blurring.that kinda sums up the wb150.anyway i better stock up on some AA0
