Foglight idiots - please explain why you have them on when it's crystal clear?

I've encountered about 5 people on my commute this morning with their sidelights and foglights on, despite it being a lovely crisp Lancashire morning.
Only one was of the backwards baseball cap variety, the others were a mix of elderly drivers and middle age mums in their Fiestas etc.
So, if any of you drive around with your foglights on... why?! I'm genuinely curious as to what's going through your head as you blind everyone with your badly aligned and unnecessary lights.
Edit: I'm 100% sure they weren't DRLs too.

because these idiots believe it makes the look of their car better.0

Quite often, they're on by accident, they don't realise they've got them on.
Didn't read the bloody manual......“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Quite a few new cars have the DRL's where the fogs would normally be and look like fogs as they aren't LED.
Think Kia Picanto is one?
Although I can't belive that fogs would blind you on a lovely crisp Lancashire morning.0 -

I think you are being very generous. I often see cars using their fog lights when I know for a fact that the controls to operate them are completely separate to the normal lighting controls.
Fog lights are my pet hate on the road (just below people who don't use ordinary lights in the fog) . So often abused.0 -
..I agree with Strider [for once]....it can happen by accident.
It may not even be for anything more than a brief moment....but in that moment, somebody spots them and throws a hissy fit.
Mention is made of the Fiesta?
I've got one...and it is very easy to accidentally knock the silly little switch 'on'...the warning light isn't very bright, and the switch can be knocked 'on' accidentally, with the engine 'off'.
If the little light isn't spotted straight away, then it is entirely possible to drive off ignorant of the fact.
But, in true mancunian van driver attitude, I would ask, 'so what?'
Does a foglight inadvertently left on actually spoil one's view?
Whilst I truly believe in upholding the Law with regards to the public highway.....it is obvious to me that the powers-that-be aren't in the slightest bit concerned any more about any sort of enforcement.
And I cannot be bothered either...because it apparently doesn't matter any more.
But. I've done it...it happens...when I realised, I turned it off...no big deal.No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
The issue with people putting them on 'by accident' is that they also seem to 'accidentally' put their sidelights on.
You see no cars driving around with the sidelights on. They either have the lights off or go straight to dipped beam.
These clowns are doing it 'accidentally' on purpose.
Agree re: DRLs though. VW are a nightmare for it. The DRLs are very bright and right next to the foglights. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
Really, what does it matter?
Why is it all considered so offensive?
If a vehicle is spotted, with those offensive lights lit, so what? At least you've all seen the vehicle.
Some of you should be thankful, I suspect, because without those illuminations, that vehicle's presence may not have been noticed by you....
When was the last time any of you reading, or posting on this thread, checked whether your brake lights function correctly?
What? Checked last time your car had an MoT?
That would sound about right!
In my jaundiced view, seeing the same vehicles, day-after-day, with a brake light out, speaks volumes for the attitude of the driver towards driving, and maintenance of their vehicle.
Are those same drivers the one's who get uptight about someone leaving their rear fogs on?
Like the time you all spot that car at night without lights at all?
Instead of getting uptight about it , just be thankful you still saw the vehicle, regardless. No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0
