Hi I am new to the forum so please be gentle :)

Following tips on prepay duel fuel we took the plunge and switched suppliers as Scottish power was one of the most expensive in the area.

Anyway the switch over happened on 29th July and today I have received a bill for over £200 for the electric and £84 for the gas. Now I wouldnt say I am thick but surely pre pay means I pay before I use it? and £200 electric is a major bill considering on the statement it says we have already paid £245 from March to July!!

Please tell me if I am being stupid but I cant find info anyway that mentions bills after switching? I am swinging between angry and worry as the reason we switched was to save money as we struggle (like us all I know) but to basically ask for £300 after leaving is just a joke!

Thank you in advance

I suggest you call the supplier to understand why they have billed you this amount.

I would normally suggest with debts of this size that this was as a result of payments you made not reaching the supplier (e.g. because you used someone else's keycard, but you state money has been credited to your account)

If the debt is as a result of having the debt loaded to the meters (e.g. you got in troble with a credit meter, hence why you have PPMs now), then the debt being less than £500 could have been transferred to your new supplier and continue to be recovered by the meter.

But you don't really say the cause, and I think that is because you don't really know the cause, so a call to the supplier would be the first step :)
