Unrecorded enquiry by Lowell Portfolio 1 Ltd

I've just checked by Experian credit report and have seen an 'unrecorded enquiry' made by Lowell Portfolio 1 Ltd on 26/05/13. I know they are a DCA from searching on them. I don't have any outstanding debts and the only credit I have is one credit card (occasionally used and always paid in full), current account overdraft (not used) and direct debit for the water bill which now appear on the credit report. I used to have a several credit card balances, a phone contract and a loan but these were all paid in full and settled around 2 years ago (and shown as settled on the credit report). So why are Lowell doing a search on me and are they allowed to do this without my permission?

No, they shouldn't --> Can debt collection company legally access my credit report?

Fortunately, only you can see an unrecorded enquiry, so no prospective creditor will see that should you apply for something.

I thought it didn't seem right. I am concerned that Lowell have accessed my credit file without my permission or any good reason as I'm sure I don't have any outstanding debts. Is it worth contacting Experian about this? I know it's only a footprint search and I don't want to apply for any credit anyway but I'm concerned about the data protection side of things. Could Lowell be phishing? Also I'm not sure how long the footprint stays on the report.
  • hi we have just applied for a mortgage in our joint names with halifax and the day after we have noticed on our experian reports that lowell portfolio has conducted a unrecoreded search on us , we have no debts or ccjs very clean with never any debt ,
is this because of our mortgage application ?

Lowell is a firm that firms like Halifax sell bad debts to but they may provide other services. Suggest you ask Halifax.
