tom tom one - just isnt working! any ideas

just been given a brand spanking new tom tom one for my birthday and graduation, but i turn it on and it has a pic of the mem card with a red cross on it, ive plugged it into my comp and it says there is nothing on the SD card, ive tried to put stuff on it and it says unable to unzip file or unable to read file or error while reading card.

any ideas?

try formatting the card? (anything on there will be lost- although you say there isnt anything on there)

before you format it, try booting the unit up without the card in it

when i turn it on without card in i get a pic of unit and a blue SD card whissing its way into the unit as a picture.

These things work 'out of the box' - you shouldn't have to connect it to a computer to get it working or format the disk or anything like that. I have one and its pretty good. There are a number of 'duds' around where the data card did not contain what it is supposed to. Take it back to where you bought it - you are entitled to a refund or replacement. That includes Amazon.

Mine went funny like this once but I could see everything on the SD card when I put it into my PC. So I took it all off, formatted the card and put it back on and it worked.

Try resetting the TomTom unit (paperclip in the reset hole) or take out the SD card out and see if its readable in your PC on its own.

ok i sent it back to amazon for a refund and bought another one from tesco... so all is well....

However, im a little worried about "updating" the maps etc from the comp as it seems to be the problem last time. do i have to do this?
