I don't want them to close my Halifax account as I still want the £5. Do they always close them?

Even if they don't close the Halifax, they will move all the DDs - - which will mean you won't get your fiver any longer!

Today I applied for the 123 acc and to transfer from Halifax but didn't get an instant decision, is it because of bank holiday. Cant see them declining.

Just got am email saying they will let me know within three days.

As an existing customer, I applied on Friday and got an email Saturday teatime to say my new account was open, and I looked and it was.

As a general tactic I think there's something to be said for opening a savings account before trying to open a current account or do a switch. You can get the ID and online/phone banking setup out of the way. According to the cashback sites, you can derail the cashback if the online application hits a hiccup.

Don't do that at First Direct though.

I got another email saying the application is with the underwriters, probably will be because I asked for a £1000 overdraft?
I already have an isa with them with £10000 in

I didn't want/need an overdraft facility as I intend to maximise 3% savings.
However, amongst the bumph I received, was a statement saying that I hadn't been approved for an overdraft - check with Credit reference agency to find out why!
