0% Insertion Fees tomorrow

Not sure if this is where I should post this, but just had email from e-bay to say there's a 0% Insertion Fee, tomorrow, but only for 10 day auction style listings.

I don't really see the point of eBay overlapping Free Listing Offers like this: I can't relist anything this time around, because it's all still on auction from the last Free Listing Weekend.

I suspect many other MSE users are in the same boat - I don't get eBay offering free listing days that most 'regulars' are going to have to pass on. Surely there's very little point in having a free listing day that 'fails'? :huh:

This confirms what I have been finding. In the last few months auctions ending on a Sunday have had very little interest. Obviously e-bay have found this throughout their site, hence this one. If you remember, about a month or so ago they had a free listing day for Sunday only.

I take your point, two overlapping free listing opportunities certainly allows 200 items to be listed at any one time...

But this made me think to myself, 200 items at one time is a lot of items for any private seller* - do you think it's possible that eBay is trying to identify business sellers, who are operating 'under the radar', as private sellers and avoiding tax?

*I accept, it could be a one-off loft clearance, which I did myself, a couple of years ago or downsizing.

A 10 day listing starting tommorrow will end on a Sunday, I don't understand your point.

Yes, hence the suggestion on this thread that this free listing was designed to end on the Sunday to build up interest again.

I am on taget for sales of 5000 over a 12 month period. My data sheets shows that the number of bidders on a Sunday has declined considerably over the last two months. E-Bay must see this decline over a large number of listings ending on a Sunday, and by giving free listings ending on a Sunday hope to generate more traffic on that day.

You must remember e-bay has income from advertisers, the rates for which will almost certainly be based on traffic on a particular day. Increase activity on a Sunday, and advertising rates can be raised for that day.

Sun used to be my busiest day, followed by Mon but things have shifted onto Mon (buyers checking the local shops first and then looking online?) and also Wed for some reason :huh:

I've noticed that as well. I often end my business auctions on a Monday because A) it avoids the stuff beig sold by private sellers using FLW, and My prices were always better. This is in complete contrast to a couple of years back where Mondays were slow.

As for the idea that ebay are looking to catch out unregistered businesses, I alway used to support that conspiracy theory. I get a lot of people contact me about ebay issues via a couple of other sites and it was not uncommon to get the 'ebay want me to upgrade to a business' email , some months I would get a couple. However, I haven't had any for ages so has ebay stopped worrying about it?

I've certainly had a few people contact me as they have gone below standard and suddenly find out that means they can't list on FLW for free, and some of those are obviously businesses and make no attempt to hide it yet have never been asked to upgrade, not even the clothes sellers who were always targetted by ebay. Go and look at the challenge threads on other MSE boards, fairly high numbers of people trading on ebay, and making very good money- yet no hint of any requirement to show as a business.

Oh bottom. I didn't spot the OP until today - but listed a load of stuff yesterday all at starting price of 99p. I could have started higher/offered free delivery

I never seem to see/get these messages until it's too late. Oh well, that'll teach me to list stuff instead of looking at MSE forums

Oooh, now there's a question - what's greater, the amount gained from selling on eBay or the amount saved using MSE???:) Sorry - just musing - maybe should start a new thread with that one
