garden gate advice

wishing to extend my drive gate metal one about 1/2 feet can you suggest,what to use moving the pillar.. maybe something from bq thanks

If it's a brick pillar then you can either re-build it or add a packing out device - How are the posts fixed are they drilled through to the actual pillar or fixed downwards on the ground ?

If fixed to the pillar then as said use a packing out device :- Depending on the weight of the gates you could use timber unless they are pretty heavy in which case you would need to consider moving the actual pillar or adding to the existing one with brick work.

If fixed through the ground then simply lift out and move and re-fix back down again and then close the gap with a timber spacer.

Still depends on the weight of the gates though as if they are quite heavy then I would suggest a new part being added to the existing pillar as they may just pull away on a timber fixing.

Try lifting a gate and seeing if you think it will hold first on a timber packer and if so jobs a good one if not then build up a new section against the old pillar and tie it in.
