Lamest switching excuse ever
Options
I'm in the process of switching. On 30th July the new supplier, EdF, emailed me "Please provide your gas and electricity meter readings any time between 30 July 2013 - 5 August 2013". So I did, that very day.
A fortnight later my old supplier asked me for readings. When I checked with them they said that I was still with them for Gas. I called EdF and asked why they had only passed on the Electricity reading I'd supplied. Their answer:
We thought that the Gas reading you submitted was "for information only"
Perhaps it makes more sense in French.:rotfl:

I seem to be in a minority having never had problems with EDF. The above tale is just pathetic on EDF's part.
However, it could jut be incompetence on their part, it seems that switches, even when you are switching dual fuel, don't seem to go through simultaneously and can be weeks apart...0 -

Indeed, but EdF claim that they took over the Gas contract 8 days ago.
In fact, they've already taken £56 from my bank account for the Gas contract.
And this is for a switch initiated at the end of June. Only MSE's Cheap Energy Club come out of this switch with any credibility.0 -

It's usual for gas & electricity to switch on differing days, even if coming from the same supplier.
The email would have specified which meter readings were required.
You will be provided with a date when the gas is to be switched (if you asked for that to switch too) and will be requested a meter reading in due course.
The email they sent out should have explained this as follows:... We'll start to supply your electricity from [date]. If you've also signed up for gas supply, you'll get a separate start date and meter read request for your gas...
Edit:
You seem to have been sent an entirely different email to the one that I received, cause the one I got never have the range of dates you suggest, rather a start date and a request for a meter reading within 5 days of that date.
My email went on:
...To ensure your switch to [tariff name] goes smoothly, please provide us with your electricity meter reading within 5 days of this start date if you have not already done so. We'll provide the reading to your previous supplier, so they can close your account correctly...
I switched about a year ago, so I don't know if they've changed their emails in the meantime, but if they have, perhaps they should change them back as yours is obviously not so clear.0 -
I'm used to different start dates - and EdF showed different start dates on their website - albeit the electricity start date changed/slipped day by day. When I received the request for readings, that electricity date had already passed and the gas start date was beyond the readings date range they specified. Nevertheless, I did exactly what EdF asked me to do. BTW, since then, my old supplier, Scottish Power, has sent me a printed bill for MINUS 78p. Yet another value-added activity:rotfl:
Ah, dear! All of these shiny systems and behind it all is the same old bungling - if not worse. Same as with the switch from HSBC to RBS business bank accounts we discussed recently, Wywth.
But that should be filed elsewhere under topic "Lamest switching excuse ever - 2":)0
