Forms for transferring number plates

Hi Guys,

Trying to get my act together and get paperwork organised for transferring my OH personalised number plate from one vehicle to the other.

I've been on the GOV website and downloaded and filled in the Application to transfer or retain a vehicle registration number (V317), sections 2 and 3 as I want to transfer from one vehicle to another.

The document says I need a cheque for £80, which I have got. I also need MOT's, V5's and insurance documents for both cars which I've collated.

The other thing it asks for is the 'Application for tax disc (V10)', so I've printed 2 copies off, one for the old car and the other for the new one. Under vehicle details, what should I put in the registration number (shall I put the old reg in or shall I fill in the personalised reg for form 2 and leave form 1 the old car reg blank as I don't know what dvla will issue that car...)

Also under section 3 tax disc details it asks whether I want the tax disc to run for six months or 12 months. Well I'm just interested in replacing the current tax disc which has 5 months on one vehicle and 4 months on the other vehicle with same periods. Judging by the form I need to get a minimum of 6 months tax on both vehicles, is this correct or am I misinterpreting it. The thing is, if I tick 6 months for both, bearing in mind I have a cheque only for £80, how would they charge for the additional months for the extended tax disc. I think this V10 has confused me, might take a trip on my lunch break to dvla office which is 25miles away - but would really appreciate advice from anyone that's done this recently.
