Do you have a copy of the holding deposit receipt? I know the agencies I worked for would word it in a very clever way making it very difficult for the tenant to get their money back. Generally if the landlord pulls out the money is yours from my experience and I agree you should have it back, after all they still have a tenant and therefore still have a fee (if they're being entirely honest about this other offer).
SO glad I don't work in this industry any more!0 -
report them to watchdog, a friend had one via them and they make him sign a renewal and don't revert to rolling contract at £60 a time. They charge you a checkout fee in advanceDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

I think this will be one of those pain in the proverbial things that you will win without a shadow of a doubt, but theyre just trying it on and you have to go through the motions.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Actually your friend could've said no. And a checkout in advance is normal
yes he could, but normal agents let it go on a month to monthDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0 -

I was messed about by these a few years ago. Had first viewing which was postponed when I went to the rearranged one others were in before despite the time given being the 'earliest' . Had another couple given the same viewing time as me. To top it off when I asked when the office next open so I could apply they didn't tell me that morning (Saturday). Found out by chance and went down a couple of hours later to see first couple finishing signing up.
Clearly the agency wanted 2 times the search fees  I was a sole applicant.:j0 -

Your fees are returned if the LL refuses your application, just like in the OP's case. It's simply a case of a letter or 2.0 -

It never got that far as I knew I wasn't going to win. They said i could apply and the ll decide but they thought 2 applicants better than one so i didnt waste mt time. It was the underhand way they dealt with me that was upsetting.:j0
