Santander internet banking automatic registration

A friend has just asked me this question and I think I know the answer but not sure:

When you open a Santander current account online, is online banking automatically requested, or do they need to manually register once they have received there debit card?

I think the answer is "Yes, online banking is automatically requested" as I'm sure I didn't need to register. But has anyone done it recently - is it still the same?

If you have a Santander Bank Account, you can register now using your debit card.

Why have I received Online and Telephone Banking log on details when I haven't requested them?

If you have recently bought a product from us and you don't currently use Telephone or Online Banking, we will automatically send you out the necessary information by letter to get you started.

I never received a terms and conditions booklet, I got the debit card PIN first, then the debit card and then the telephone banking and online access envelopes.

Guess this is as joint account holders don't have to live at the same address really and t&cs have to be provided. Also, your online/tele banking are customer specific not account specific, at least you got it all, the postman lost half of mine!

How long does it normally take to get the internet banking stuff?

They received the ATM PIN on the 9th, card on the 12th and T&Cs on the 13th. No sign of any internet banking stuff yet.

You said, on Aug 14, you received, amongst others, the "online access" envelope - - - that would be your "internet banking stuff", wouldn't it?

Presumably he is talking about when he opened an account a long time ago.

    Nooooooooo....

Your getting me and them confused. I started this post for a friend as I opened my account over 12 months ago and can't remember and so wondering if anyone has done it more recently.

I'm going to guess they should receive something this week as probably can't start the process until account is fully opened.
