Money left in a Mexico HSBC account

I recently moved back to the UK after living in Mexico. While there, I had a basic HSBC bank account and before I left, I tried to transfer the balance to the UK. I made a mistake on the form, and the staff at the bank didn't spot it so the transfer didn't go through.

Since I got back, I've been to HSBC several times, but they are largely unhelpful (I don't have a UK HSBC account, and they simply repeat that HSBC Mexico is a different entity and nothing to do with them) and their suggestions have achieved nothing: I have called Mexico, I have written to Mexico, I have asked bank staff in Mexico to speak with staff in the UK.

The only suggestion they have made that seems to have potential is doing repeated encashments, but these have a limit, and will take 22 trips to the bank over 44 days to complete. Plus, the process looks like it will cost me around £200.

Does anyone know of any way I can get access to my money? I have tried researching on websites, but so far have turned up nothing. The card for my account can not be used abroad nor on the internet.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Send them (HSBC Mexico) a signed snail mail letter directly instructing them to make a payment for the balance of your account less the cost of the transfer to your account in the UK, quoting your IBAN and BIC/SWIFT code, or ask them to send you the forms to do so to your UK address.

I see no reason why they couldn't do that.

Why can't you just get HSBC in Mexico to send you the form again and this time fill it in correctly (assuming you now know where it was wrong before)?

Cross posted with JJ - great minds, etc.

Thanks for your suggestions. I have tried writing to them - the letters don't recieve any response and sending them by courier is racking up the pounds, so I don't want to continue in that vein. On the phone they say I would have to be physically present to complete the forms and show originals of my ID. (they say it also has to be in Mexico, they cannot take the word of HSBC UK).

I do have some options left, I was just looking to see if there was a cheaper, easier way of doing it.

Again, thanks for trying to help.

Standard procedure these days. If it's a real problem. Fly back to resolve the matter.
