Hairdresser refusing to give colour brand/code

Firstly, apologies if this is in the wrong place, couldn't think where to post.

I am having to change hairdressers as the one I've been using for years is in my old home town, and I need to go somewhere closer to home/work.

Today I phoned to ask what the brand/code(s) of the dye are that I get, so I can give this to the new hairdresser, and they've refused to give me the information.

They state company policy doesn't allow them to divulge this info.

Do I have any rights to this, as surely it's my own private file I'm asking about?

Maybe I should send a FOI request? :p

Many thanks in advance.

They have no obligation to tell you anything. FOI requests are for government depts /public bodies only and certainly not for something as trivial/frivolous as this. You are taking your business elsewhere, I'd not tell you anything except goodbye....

  • Should have said your doctor needed to know, as you'd had an allergic reaction and he didn't know what the cause was.

You could perhaps call and ask what brands they use (pretend to be a new customer) saying you want to book and appt but are allergic to some. Either that or try and catch the person who normally does your hair, they might understand the situation a bit better and not assume (as the receptionist may have) that you were trying to pull a fast one.

Any decent hairdresser (ie your new one) should be able to look and colour match pretty well to what you have already - even if it's not the same brand (often hairdressers have preference to brands they use) - perhaps see it as an opportunity for a slight change?

Thanks for the replies, kicking myself that I didn't think about the alergic reaction/Dr thing - it's on my hairdressers file that I do suffer from reactions and need a skin test if they're using new products. Grrrr :p

Zax, I was being flippant; I work for the Police and deal with FOI's on a daily basis, I wasn't seriously suggesting it. :o

What's wrong with the hairdressers that done it the way you obviously liked?

It is not FOI, but if they hold the information on any file such as a card index, it might come under a Data Subject Access request.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'

FOI may not work, but a subject access request might. I'm on my phone at the moment so can't check (and can't remember) whether it would cover a situation like this

    Ohhh, that's interesting. :)

Although a civil matter, I'll ask one of the Cops at work tomorrow, as [hopefully] they'll know.

Can you tell I have a bee in my bonnet over this? :o

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Cops barely know criminal law. Civil law really is pushing it. If you google for 20 minutes tonight, you'll know more about it than any police officer
