towbar add how much to insurance?

I never realised that a towbar was classed as a modification, it just never crossed my mind - I've done a quote on an insurance company who class it as a modification & ask to phone for the insurance & not do it online but the online quote is done via Topcashback & I would lose nearly £50. Over the years we've had insurance, never thought we had to say about the towbars we've had fitted to our cars, have made claims & been paid out & the question has never arose - should I carry on regardless & not mention the towbar?

Depends on the company, some I've had haven't been bothered whereas others have. It has never cost me any more regardless, which may have been down to being only single electrics so only towing smaller trailers.

I would say it is always best to tell them as insurance companies are notorious for trying to wriggle out of paying for a claim.

:shhh: you could always get your insurance on line, then phone up to say you are having a tow bar fitted and do they need notifying :shhh: ;)

that would be a mid term change the cost for which would likely wipe out the cash back

Like I said, it's never cost me anything extra.

Same here. Some companies want to know, others don't. Either way, it's never cost me any more.

I've always declared it, except now, as the current insurer gives a list of modifications that don't need to be declared.
