Yes, or equally use a Mastercard credit card and select 'Mastercard Debit'. Argos Card's online payment system isn't smart enough to tell the difference between credit and debit cards.
I quite often use my Argos card to get the interest free credit, then pay that off with an Aqua cashback credit card to get 3% back.0 -

Whoa, that works? Is it unique to Argos cards or would it work with others (MBNA, barclaycard, anyone?

Indeed, wasn't sure with MasterCard so didn't mention that, but definitely works with Visa.
Not sure about other issuers, pretty sure they don't, with the exception of Creation issued cards, which accept a credit card to pay for a credit card.
I assume you could, in theory, get two creation cards, max one out and use the other to pay it off, then just use them to pay each other off in perpetuity. Good way of maxing cashback/miles/points, though!0 -

Creation is the only card I've heard of that 'officially' allows this.
I bet Argos would soon put a stop to this loophole if they realised what was happening. But then, I've been expecting that for about 18 months since I first discovered this trick and it still worked last time I tried it! (last month)0 -
Some helpful and interesting replies to this thread, thank you to all.
The Argos bill has now been paid by debit card, though if I'm in this position again I will try to Mastercard Debitcard trick first instead of going through all this hassle
