Ebay considering Ending Auction format?

Ebay have just asked me how i would feel if they stopped using auctions - and everything on Ebay was BIN.

I would feel PEEVED - you arrogant money mad muppets - thats the only reason i use EBAY instead of Amazon

I only sell using BIN, can't be bothered with the non-payers.

If eBay decided to stop using auctions, perhaps people would move over to ebid? This in turn could make ebid a decent platform to sell on and a competitor for eBay.

I doubt it, they've failed to use any other opportunity over the last 12 years.
It's interesting Ebay are asking, auctions are probably more of a loss leader for them, with auctions earning less than fixed price items and probably costing more in customer service issues.
John Donahoe (CEO) is on record as saying auctions won't be going anywhere, times do change. If you'd have asked me 3 years ago I'd have insisted that auctions were part of our long term sales, they are much less now than ever, some weeks I don't run any.

I rely on auctions for 2nd hand ITEMS - especially if I have no idea of its value.

All new stuff I buy and sell via BIN.

But if Ebay abandoned its core - I would abandon Ebay.

TBH - the abuse I have had this week for DARING to increase my dispatch times by 2 days, while im away visiting a very sick relative - are enough to make you think sod it.

"Where's my item? I paid yesterday AND I need it tomorrow, for a birthday present".

SO WHY DID YOU BUY MINE AND NOT SOMEONE ELSES YOU ARROGANT , IGNORANT SOB's

    Rant Over :)

I have a private account which I use to sell 2nd hand items, I run them ALL on auction... I don't see how BIN would work for 2nd hand items!

Plenty do sell second hand using BIN only. It's probably one of the reasons they're tinkering with best offer.

I only sell second hand items and I only use BIN.

Auctions are too much hassle for me. Numerous questions, silly 'end it early' offers and almost always 'do you have a BIN price?'

BIN with immediate payment works very well for me with second hand goods

Don't you think things might change at ebid if they were the only site to offer an auction format for sellers?

I have seen 2nd hand on BIN but they often look overpriced to me...
  • :( hope they don't get rid of auctions. That's the fun on ebay, watching an item and bidding. There certainly won't be any more bargains if everything is buy it now

If they got rid of auctions I'd certainly buy much less lol. Due to fees and postage costs it's not worth me selling half the stuff I own on ebay, but when I have sold I've used auctions 99% of time.

Most of the bargains I've got have been thanks to auctions and low start prices. Without them I just wouldn't buy the item at all so...
