I landed a job yesterday after months of serious looking. But what happens next? I have my offer letter but the jobs isn't likely to start until mid September, do I sign off now (crumbs...) or keep signing? Do I still keep looking for work as per the terms of my job seekers agreement?
Thanks in advance :j

congratulations!
you can continue to sign on as long as you still seek work and meet your jobseekers agreement.
who knows, you may find a temporary job to cover you until your full time position starts.
i know i will be told off for this, but some people expect others to be able to live on fresh air .....
dont tell the JC that you have a job to start as they may try to force you to sign off before your employment commences.
as i sais, if you continue to meet your jobseekers agreement, and would be willing to take a job until mid september, then carry on signing0 -
For once i agree with nannytone's good advice..0

As advised above - don't sign off until the last moment as anything could happen between now and then. You will lose access to what little support there is if you do that.
Oh.! One last thing - congratulations.!!

After reading two long threads this morning concerning how demoralising the jobcentre and Work Programme regimes are then the OP must feel not unlike a lottery winner so a big bravo on landing a job and with it escaping the reign of terror.
Keep schtum about it 'cause they don't need to know about your success.0 -
It's daft isn't it? It's an 18 hour a week admin job but I feel amazing... I didn't believe the job market was so bad, I was of the opinion that if you want work it's out there but it's just not the case anymore. Now all I need is another part time job to fit and it's utopia...
Thanks all x0 -
sounds daft, but now you have one job, another will be easier to find.
it may not be the hours you want, but as you gain in experience and confidence you become much more attractive to other employers.
onwards and upwards!0 -
Congratulations and another one like that would be great! Keep signing on while you are looking for it

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
What great news for you! :j:j:j I wish you every possible success.

I recently ended a stint on JSA, after landing a new FT job of my own, so WP lainey.

I was signing each Thursday morning, and attended the interview on Thurs afternoon.
I was made a job offer almost immediately after the interview, and the official offer came through the post on Tuesday the following week.
On my next Thursday signing at the JC (a week after the interview & offer) I informed them when I was due to begin work (which was 10 days hence).
The JC advisor advised me to date my sign-off paperwork for the Sunday immediately prior to my first Monday, effectively giving me a seamless transition from JSA to work.
Of course that didn't help with the fact I get paid monthly in arrears (!! :P) but yeah, my experience was that I could sign-off for the day before starting work, and this was done over a week before that date (effectively future-dating my sign-off date, if that makes sense).
Best of luck with the new job
