As far as I'm aware Bank of Scotland had no presence in England apart from a few business branches until they merged with Halifax. In England as far as I can tell Bank of Scotland branches are the business banking arm of HBOS and as such you will struggle to find a Bank of Scotland branch that deals with personal customers in England. In Scotland they now appear to be joint Halifax/BOS branches. I moved to England from Scotland 8 years ago and after they initially merged I couldn't do any BOS personal banking in Halifax branches, that thankfully has now changed but I still get the impression that they don't know that they are supposed to be the same company.

Well, an update for anyone who is interested. Yesterday I received my additional ID back in the post. Today I received a letter saying they can't open my account because I need to pay in £100. So I phone the number on the letter and say I have paid in £100, it's just sitting in a suspense account waiting for the ID to be authorised. Unfortunately they can't help me because that department don't work on Saturdays and there's no system for them to be able to get one of the other dept to ring me on Monday. I get the feeling that Halifax is doing all the admin but the money is being handled by BoS and the two parts don't talk to each other.

Now here's a funny thing.... Some 'poster's (Saxmund, f'r'instance) may recall my posts on another thread about how I applied on-line for the BoS £100-incentive a/c and how e v e n t u a l l y they turned me down. Well, I decided to apply on-line for the *new* Halifax £100-incentive a/c, just to give them something to do, to stop them sitting on their hands, before they turned me down again -- BUT! -- this time I've been accepted...!!! So, now to set up a couple of Standing Orders on my derelict Barclays £100-incentive a/c so that the Halifax Switching Team has got something to switch... I am going into a local Halifax tomorrow a.m. to show them my driving licence & to sign the Appli-form.
Expect the worst & hope for the best...
