Online animal care courses

Hi all,
can anyone recommend an online animal care course. I have searched the internet and have found loads of courses but not sure if they are worth the paper they are written on. I would like to get a qualification so that maybe in the future I can pursue a career involving animals. Any advice would be greatly received. :money:

  • As a point of note and dont want to wee on your bonfire but... I tend only to consider courses taken at colleges when assessing CVs for jobs in my practice. As each job can see 60-70 applicants I can afford to be quite narrow.

I think it is better to have some idea in what area of the animal industry you want to work and ask the employers what they are looking for. I get a lot of prosective enquiries as well. I have a lot of these in for some kind of interview to find out what they are after and try and help them to get the right kind of qualifications.

E.G. The "easiest" way into vet practice is via a vocational college animal care course, where you need to get a placement in a practice. I almost always employ those who have had placements and a lot of these have gone on to be trained as nurses.

i thought about going to college to do that,

In my book college based courses always count for a lot and I am sure that I am not alone in this thought, so that would sound like a very reasonable route to further work.

I have been looking into retraining as a veterinary nurse and been looking at courses for this. From my perspective it seems the best way to approach this is to work voluntary at an rspca or animal rescue centre in the first instance, a lot of the degree courses in my area don't seem to accept people unless they have had some hands on experience
  • thanks simontheiceman.
i agree that experience is a great idea,
i personally have had a huge amount of experience with many types of animal, birds, reptiles lambing on a farm, cat rescue, much more,
i think at the college nr here they also have a few animals for the students to get practical experience with.
now i would need to gain the qualifications to prove my knowledge.
