Severe disability premium

Hi there, I was recently granted high rate DLA after winning an appeal. i was granted high rate care & low rate mobility. I am also in receipt of ESA and in the support group. After being granted DLA I received a letter regarding a severe disability payment of £59.75 a week. I signed the letter & posted it back. I only posted it a couple of weeks ago but iv not had a reply yet. I checked the criteria needed to receive this disability premium and I meet it entirely. Does anyone know if I should get this disability premium and if I do, does it get backdated to the same date as my backdated DLA??? I don't really get what it is but I do fit the criteria and it was DWP who informed me about it. Any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks
Claire 😀

Bjorky - Are you on income related ESA or contributions type? To get the either EDP or SDP you must be on the means tested version of this benefit. It is usually paid out automatically if you are on IR ESA. You only mention DLA, so that could be why?

Glad that it will get sorted in due course. It will be a nice little back dated payment due once sorted out for you.

All i need now is to see a benefit advisor but running into trouble finding someone to help me, i was told by the council i can do it myself online on entitledto but sadly its impossible as i am exempt from paying council tax and only 2 levels on that site of 25% or 50% and you cant give a correct answer to what i can qualify for. Am housebound so i can't get out unless i have transport and my carer with me.

Entitled to can deal with that. If you are exempt from council tax it should pick that up. Otherwise just enter £0 when it asks how much council tax you are charged.
  • The one here is based on the other one but might be easier to complete.
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/family/benefits-check - more about ticking boxes for 1st section and then for 2nd section it asks for your postcode for the council tax area and what band you're in - the amount is not too relevant at this point. Ignore anything to do with single person discount etc and it should tell you how much approximately you should pay. If that is wrong, then you amend the figures at that point. It told me to within pennies when I used it earlier this year and that was before I knew my Council tax support %.
