Washing machine extend warranty?

Had washing machine for 5 years and the extended warranty has just ran out. Paid £200 for the machine plus £100 for 5 year warranty and had 3 call outs for repairs in that time so that was probably worth it. I've had a letter offering continued cover for £5 something a month or £70 for the year. With 3 kids and 2 adults and about 5 washes a week do you think this makes sense?
A new machine can be had for about £170 ish...

What make is the machine and what were the call-outs for?

How often are your using your washing machine?

    Is it a combined washer-dryer?

Extended warranties are generally considered a false economy.

Usually, taking a yearly policy out is cheaper than paying monthly though!?

If it's broken down 3 times in just 5 years, then you would have done better to buy a more reliable brand and do without the extended warranty. White goods are generally very reliable these days.

  • Depends on whether you wish to replace your washer regularly or get a well made one that costs more but will last and has a long guarantee.

I researched my last washer purchase to the nth degree, and settled on an ISE washer.

Cost around £800 but has a 10 year guarantee backed by AXA and it has been doing at times 2 washes a day for 3 years so far and no issues whatsoever.

Cheap washers can be a false economy but people are attracted to the lower price and have no issue skipping them after a few years as they were cheap.

Unfortunately a lot of the cheaper white goods nowadays are not built to last very long - this was the idea behind the ISE washers development.

Up to you on how much you want to spend.

  • The faults were to do with the over sensitive filter. It's Haier with a digital display.

From what I recall, Haier appliances aren't very reliable. They tend to be in the same budget category as Beko etc.

Filters in washing machines usually don't have a sensitivity. They are just a passive part that collects bits left in washing!
