loft insulation when ceiling is sloping into the roof

my dd's room is bitter in winter. it is in the back part of the house that sticks out with a lower roof than the rest (victorian, but original part of the house). I can't afford to insulate the whole roof but can do this back bit to cover her room and the bathroom.
but both the bathroom and her rooms have partially sloping ceilings into the roof space (again original). I've been up and the insulation is pathetic (very thin and very old). The things I've read say to leave some space between the insulation and the eaves to stop moisture build up. What counts as the eaves when part of the ceiling follows the line of the roof? and is there any way to insulate this sloping bit?

Leave it be. You need the ventilation it provides for the very reason you state.

A product called celotex http://www.celotex.co.uk/ could be used. It is a board which comes in various grades and thicknesses. Wickes sell one grade in various thicknesses.is there any way to insulate this sloping bit?
The board is cut to size and slipped between rafters. The thickness should be chosen to allow air to circulate. If the access is difficult from the loft space to place this or if you have lath and plaster ceilings, it is a non starter unless you are prepared to take this sloping ceiling down to place the insulation. I might consider it myself if and only if the room was due a major refurb. You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0 -
thanks both,
I guess I'll start will replacing the insulation on the flat portion so that's up to standard and think about the sloping bit.:AA/give up smoking (done)

if you only do one bit it could mean the coombe (sloped) portion of the ceiling will attract dampness, especially in the bathroom (as you'll have half a ceiling warm and half cold...)
the celotex (or any other rigid insulation) is the way to do it, measure the depth of your roof joists and make sure you leave at least 50mm gap between the roof and the ceiling - the major problem I had doing this is nails/wires etc that might be on the sloped bits - ended up having to trim the insulation around bits! This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
