Europcar missing parcel shelf

"My two colleagues sat in the back seat and recall being able to reach into the boot to get ear phones out of their bag - there definitely was no parcel shelf."
An additional thought, ask your colleagues for written witness statements and as aliasojo has said, can they prove its presence?0 -

Cancelling the card won't have any effect on whether or not the rental company can take the amount in question.
Provided that the card was valid when the original transaction was made, and also providing that when the OP signed or entered their PIN there was a clause in the T&C's stating that they agreed to pay for all charges including damage, then the credit card company will have to pay this and charge the OP for them.0 -
Google "europcar missing parcel shelf", seems to be a common occurrence..... Too common one might say.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

OP I'd be fighting this all the way. If they are insisting you lost the parcel shelf, presumably they can prove it was there to begin with?
I reckon this is your best line. Ask them to prove that the car had a parcel shelf when they gave it to you. Not sure how you could prove the tyres, I doubt they'd give you the check out sheet from the check out prior to yours but it could be useful.0 -
hire car companies are scum and you really need to thoroughly inspect the car before getting in otherwise stuff like that will happen.
I know that stuff like that can be a pain in the backside but you really need check everything.
Or get full damage waiver. I don't know if a missing interior piece will be covered by a full damage waiver though..0
