Las Vegas - package or not?

Hi
Newbie traveller wanting to go to Las Vegas for birthday treat just for myself and wife.
I am just starting out the search to book hotel and flight. I would very much appreciate just a quick couple of tips:
- Do people book flight and hotel seperately? or is it a case of comparing.
- Is Las Vega resonably priced for food/drinks etc?
- Are any sites popular for booking to Vegas or should I just search around.
Thanks

As a singleton, I always find it cheaper to book each element separately. However for couples there are some very good 'hotel + flight' deals available from BA, expedia etc.
Vegas is great for eating out, there is something in every price range.
Have a look at the Vegas thread at the top of this board, and the Tripadvisor forum.0 -
Its always a case of comparing no matter where you are going.
For the USA then I find it is almost always cheapest to buy separately, by separately I mean not a complete package rather than just if its one company providing flights and hotels or not etc.Obviously remember to factor in the cost of transfers etc when looking at things that arent complete packages.
It goes a bit off topic but there are a few places, like the Maldives, where booking from operators is cheaper for just the hotel than booking direct or via an agent even if its cheaper to book the flight separately (which I often do as I am wanting to use airmiles for the flights)0 -
have you read the first few pages of the Vegas sticky0

agree that the Vegas sticky is a very good source of info and should go a long way to answering your initial questions...and that you should compare prices for yourself and see what works out the best deal...but using the info on the Vegas sticky will help you find some hotel deals you may not come across elsewhere.
once you have done some checking around if you have any specific questions there are plenty of folks with a lot of Vegas experience who can answer questions for you.
We have never booked a package to Vegas and in most cases I think people can do better DIY, but sometimes there are deals out there that can't be beat.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0
