Advice please

I have a 2 yr old APC UPS power back up for my PC. It should continue to power my PC in a power cut for approx. 1 hour. Last week during a cut it only lasted about 20 mins. So I ordered a new battery for it,which arrived this morning. On installing it and switching on there was a loud bang and a fault code appeared. On speaking to APC it means a component on the circuit board has failed due to a short circuit and can't be fixed. The company who I bought the battery from will refund the cost of the battery but i'm now left without a UPS, APC won't help as out of warranty and a new one will cost £120. Can I pursue(small claims?) the company I bought the battery from for compensation? or do I bite the bullet and just buy a new one? thanks

Im assuming the battery wasn't an APC approved one and just a generic one you got elsewhere ?

Did it state that it was compatable specifically for the UPS model you have ?

If it specifically state it would work in your UPS then you might have a claim against them, but it might be difficult to prove and could be quite costly

i've actually had pretty good dealings with APC in past, i had a battery die on me and they just sent out a brand new UPS instead of a replacement battery
  • Thanks for the reply, it was a genuine APC battery & was the correct one for the UPS(checked using APC's website). The best APC could offer me was a "tradeup" option, send back faulty UPS and they would offer a discount of £18.99 off the price of a new one. The quote they sent me(with the discount) still came to £121.20 inc vat
