Nice hotel by Poole Ferry Terminal?

My parents are going to Jersey on 27th Sept but have an 8am ferry crossing so have to leave Oxford at silly o'clock for check in - I'm trying to book a decent but reasonable priced hotel for them to stay in for the night - don't want a B&B as they won't be there for breakfast anyway and they don't really like guesthouses.

Can anyone recommend one, was hoping to avoid premier inn, Thistle has mixed reviews - want one really where they can just get up and go to the terminal within mins so Dad doesn't have to drive a lot to get there.

TIA

I live nearby so haven't really studied hotels in Poole :). The only place that sprang to mind was the Shah of Persia, which is a pub and is a few minutes (5?) drive from the ferry.

It has mixed reviews on TripAdvisor - a quick scan seems to suggest people liked the rooms but not the food - but it's close to the town centre so there are lots of other places to eat.

  • Hi

There's a Holiday Inn Express in Poole, slightly closer than the Shah, which I think is worth a try.

Hope you find something suitable, good luck

Not sure what you've got against Premier Inn but there are two within 5 minutes drive; they are both fairly new and standard PI hotels. PI Holes Bay is slightly closer and a much better outlook over the inner harbour.

The HI Express is similar to PI, again within 5 minutes drive (early morning).

If looking for something more comfortable and non-standard there is the Hotel Du Vin but significantly more expensive; excellent service in the Restaurant - if my daughter is on shift anyhow ;-)

I wouldn't stay at the Thistle, old, dingy & dark last time I was there. Again within a couple of miles of the ferry terminal though.

Presumably they will be getting there in the evening and leaving early morning - so I wouldn't have thought that facilities are that important.

The RNLI College have rooms available, this is probably the nearest you'll get to the ferry and different to the normal chain hotel. This is the top rated on Trip Advisor and the one I'd probably look at (if I didn't live within 10 minutes drive).
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

Thanks for all your replies - they'll prob be heading down Thursday morning but they won't be needing facilities as such - don't really have anything against PI it just always reminds me of a travel lodge - bit clinical!, saying that the reviews are quite good - they're in their late 60's and I just wanted something a bit cosy for them really.

I'd second the RNLI 'Hotel' as well as the profits go to a really good cause.
