national insurance contributions

Not sure if I am posting in the right place so forgive me if I am wrong - thanks
I am employed by a UK company who does work in the EU (where I am at present) I was told about 3 years ago by my company that they were not paying my NI anymore and I should do it myself - which I did - they then changed their mind and said they should be paying it and to cease my own payments - which I did.
nearly 3 years later they have still not paid anything towards my NI - excuses like they are waiting on HMRC, or waiting on documentation from the country I am working in.
What I would like to know is - does the country I am working in have anything to do with my National Insurance Contributions, and how difficult can it be to reinstate your NI contributions?
thanks

Well, yes! but as I said I am working in the EU and phone calls are not cheap to make from a mobile to HMRC so thought I might get an idea here first.
  • if your contact is here and your outsourced within the same company then they should be paying your NI and tax as your not a self employed contractor.

The company I work for are prepared to pay my NI (they say this) but what I am trying to find out is - should it take this long to reinstate my NI and why do they need information from the countries I have worked in?
I have a feeling they are dragging their feet in paying in the lump sum owning since they decided to stop their payments, and are telling me that HMRC is not responding to their requests as are the countries I have worked in.

Which country are you in and where do you pay income tax?

Income Tax is paid in the UK, I am paid in the UK - at the moment I am in Bulgaria. My company is saying they need information from the Bulgarian Government before they can reinstate my NI contributions and this is what I fail to understand.
    thanks

Sounds like your company are not legit.

3 yrs to reinstate NI ??!!
    Info from Bulgarian Government ??!!

Write to HMRC and tell them what's going on. Ask what you and your company need to do to back-pay 3 years up to date and from here on.
