looking at EDF blue tariffs not including the daily standing charge which is increasing 3-4p/day:-

    April 2014 elec 11.69p/kwhr to Nov 2016 15.46p/kwhr
    April 2014 gas 3.57p/kwhr to Nov 2016 4.47p/kwhr

Bang goes another years pay rise just on fuel costs

Minimum 25% increases coming up for many of us

    We'd best get fracking pronto.
  • We have just started the process of opening up our fire places and BG can go hang. We are going to Ebico for electricity and trying to save for solar panels
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I meant shut it down, considering these wind farms are supposedly pumping out more than enough energy anyway.

what happens when the wind does not blow and we don't have enough coal fired stations to fill the gap?

They should be investing in energy storage technology, to use up every last drop of renewable energy. Last I heard was that liquid air storage was looking promising, but there is always pumped storage hydroelectric. Still it won't happen as prominent Tory supporters stand to gain Billions with fracking.Wonder if the water companies will start charging for supplying gas from the tap too :o)

yes - energy storage is a way forward but I don;t think we are ready to be turning off the coal stations just yet. other than the pumped hydro storage the other techs are not yet mature enough. the government should be investing heavily in this research though.

i think a few tory/lib/labour supporters stand to gain billions from the windfarms too...

Did Ian Peters really say "upgrading people to non-condensing boilers"? Not "condensing" but "non-condensing"?

    quote the original:

Household consumption is falling, and there's a lot we're doing to help that happen – from insulating homes through to upgrading people to condensing boilers

At least you'll get a pay rise. Heaven knows how I and many others will absorb the rises.:(

I don't actually know if I'll get a pay rise yet. I get paid directly from a research council and the contract doesn't specify a rate for the final year which I'm about to enter, just "to be decided". The last 2 years were both increases of 2% so hopefully that continues.
