EDF Energy

This is just a warning to everyone who uses EDF Energy. We recently received a letter advising that our Blue+Promise contract would end in September. We chose to fix again for the next twelve months and did this on line in July. I have just checked my bill to find they started charging the new rate immediately and increased our direct debit without advising us. Having spoken to them they now advise not to sign up on line as the system(!?) automatically thinks that you want to change immediately!! They have now amended my account back to the 2013 rate. So much for the energy companies getting their act together - I think not!!

When I changed mine there was a note to say don't change your tarriff on the my account section instead there was a link to another page to send your choice through manually and they will automatically change it on 1st October to your chosen tarriff

Thanks to all complying EDF customers (they were generous to agree and pay up increased price), here is the result.

Perhaps a bit too much Swing & not enough Roundabout.

The Switch made to a 2015 Fixed tariff before your Sept 2014 one expired, that immediately incurred the 2015 prices may not have been a bad thing.
The extra costs will apply to low use Summer months, but there is no guarantee that the current offer of a 2015 Fix, will still be available when the present Sept 2013 Fix contract expires.

I'm broadly in the same boat with an EDF Fix till April 2014, but I'll seek out later fixes in Feb/March 2014 and take the 2 month price hit if I think it's worth it.

Just sent this email to EDF

We have today almost signed up to a blue price freeze Nov 2016 deal after clicking on the "change tariff" portion of our account. Towards the right of this page is a so called estimate of the yearly cost of this deal. There is an asterix to denote a footnote at the bottom which reads "estimates based on the information you have provided"

Given that we have provided regular meter readings, have had our meter recently read by yourselves and have an account that details the accurate KW/h usage per year for each utility can you explain how your figure is almost 30% out, and more to the point when we would have found this out. We should not have to go into the details of your tarrif and scrutinise the numbers to find out that there is such a massive differential.

My account has used 2847 KW/h electricity and 14803KW/h of gas at a current charge of (elec) 14p st chg and 11.32p / KW/h and gas 22p st chg and 3.446p KW/h with a total cost of ~£960

Your deal for 2016 allegedly costs £1056 based on the details that we have provided (and that you have been used to calculate the above) - a 10% increase however your charges are

    Elec - 18.9p st chg (35 % higher), 16.26p KW/h (43.63% higher)

    Gas - 26.25 st chg (19.31% higher) 4.576p KW/h (32.7% higher).

Im sure you get the jist, but check that the quick click and fix based on an attractive price is not a load of bobbins. I couldnt believe that I could fix for three years at a 10% increase and so looked into the tarrif and every single charge was much more than their claimed price. They have no excuse, they have accurate information, the same information that they have accurately calculated other bills and tarrifs with.
