Asda - excellent customer service.

All I see on here is complaints about the staff at Asda, well I have the reverse to pass on.

I mislaid my Google Nexus 7 tablet on Saturday, it was in my basket when I put it down for a few seconds and when I later looked for it could not find it.

Now my Nexus7 is my 3rd arm, my memory, my sat nav, my message store, my shopping list, my (and so on - its my everything ok).
(I have a very poor short term memory and am very forgetful.)

I went all around the store looking for it, sneaking a peek in every other basket I could find.

The staff at Asda in Rawtenstall were brilliant, the security guy (Clive) went off and checked the cameras, look all around the store and car park on camera. The porters all looked in every basket and trolley and around the car park to see if someone was sat in a car looking at a tablet. The woman on Customer Support was very helpful. I couldn't fault them.

If I could find the email address to send this to at Asda house I would - I cant so am saying thanks here.

Unfortunately they could not find it for me.

However, that's not the end of the story - as I had resigned myself to losing my precious, I was driving back home when I got a phone call from a chap at another Asda store in pilsworth - he had it!
His little nephew was playing with it in the car when he arrived.
How & why I cannot figure and ATM do not care - I dashed there and collected it off him (Big thanks to that honest chap) and am now reunited with my baby.

Now I'm looking on Ebay for either one of those springy plastic chain lanytard things or a manbag. lol

P.S. I was going to come home and use Prey to locate it or the device manager to wipe my data off it. i am glad I did not need to.

  • 1. Why would you leave your tablet in a basket, and then put it down unattended?
    2. Why wouldn't you have a backup of your data if it's that important?

Things to think about in future :)

I can vouch for the staff at Asda Rawtenstall going the extra mile, even when it was on Bocholt Way. My wife had her purse nicked in the store and they gave us the groceries in her trolley for free. (Pity she didn't pile it up!)

There's forgetful and there's asking for a theft to happen.

If you know you're forgetful, you don't take a Nexus out shopping and leave it in your basket.

Also, put something on the lock screen, a password or PIN, so it is a bit more protected.

On that basis if you have memory problems, you'd never step out of the house.People still have to live their lives. Having a bad memory doesn't make you stupid.

I'm glad you got it back, but taking a tablet round the supermarket with you, sad or what?

Why take it with me and put it down.....

I was the victim of an assault many years ago, as a consequence of head injuries I have a short term memory of................

Now what was I talking about?

Oh yes - a goldfish lol

I take my tablet to the supermarket because I am a a geek that likes gadgets. I also like to compare prices and cant read my own horrible handwriting.

While I see others using their phone as a shopping list, I go one better and use the out of milk app as it will tell me exactly where each item I need is, I can make a shopping list on the pc and my wife can update it in real time when at home.
(I also take the paper backup list just in case.)

I put it down for a few seconds forgetting that I had my nexus in the basket - because I was thinking of too many other things at the time and rushing.

But yes - slightly sad. :)

Mattyprice, I now have backups but its not the backups of the data that were important - its the access to everything else.
I had Prey and lookout on it and could have located it and taken pictures however need it ti have the wifi enabled for that, locking it would have preventing another turning it on (I leave it off when not using it to conserve power).

I now have cerberus on it, with this I have been able to find it to within a few meters, take photos of me using it, record video & audio, lock it with messages and make it scream.

And to test my backups - I did a remote wipe - that worked.
Unfortunately the backups did not do as well, my notes were not restored (good job I had them copied to my pc) and all my home page settings/folders apps etc were not returned.

But if I can get it back - that's not a problem.

    Cheers folks.

  • Must say I've never had a problem with Asda really, always had efficient and quick delivery shopping, although recently I have been concerned about some of their meat, which doesn't seem to be as good as it previously was.
